Buena Vista SDA School takes flight September 2, 2020!

Buena Vista SDA School is proud to announce the addition of Cohort C to our hybrid model for the restart of school on September 2.
Cohort C will be online on Monday's and Wednesdays while Cohort A is in the classroom. On Tuesday and Thursday Cohort C will receive self directed assignments (as is Cohort A) to be completed prior to their next online class.
Thank you to our teachers for making a significant adjustment so we can partner with those parents that need to maintain a stay at home profile.

Rationale: The need to go to distance learning in the Spring of 2020 was essential due to a lack of understanding of how C-19 was spread, and how it would affect students/teachers/parents, and to mitigate the spread. Upon reflection, the staff at BV felt that while this was essential, it was not an effective way to continue to deliver education to our students. As a result of this, we know there are students that have developed learning gaps that may hamper their academic progress for the years to come.

Because we are a smaller school, we feel it is possible to maintain our students' health through social distancing, face coverings, and hand washing. To enhance our social distancing efforts, we will operate a hybrid program where students will be placed in two cohorts (not ability based!) M/W and T/Th. Friday will be remote learning for all students while the building is disinfected.

On Monday/Wednesday students in cohort A will be in class all day while those in cohort B will be at home doing remote learning. On Tuesday/Thursday students in cohort B will be in class while those in cohort A will be at home doing remote learning. On Friday all students will do remote learning.

The two-cohort system is designed to reduce the odds of C-19 spread by ample space for social distancing, face coverings (mask or shields), and frequent hand washing. For the benefit of our staff who have elderly parents or young children at home, we thank you for respecting our need to have staff and students follow these protocols.

School will begin at 8:15 am and conclude at 3:15 pm.

This plan will remain in place until circumstances allow or require additional adjustments.
